In his ending, Jin defeats Kazuya and Heiachi, but although swearing to kill them, he ends up sparing the life of both thanks to a merciful vision of his mother, Jun.

During the tournament, he gets captured by the Tekken Force and imprisoned in the Hon-Maru, where the entity that possessed Kazuya tried to gain control over Jin's Devil Gene without success. He refused to continue using their fighting style and embraced karate, treasuring the teachings of his mother.

In Tekken 4, after Heiachi's betrayal, Jin repudiated Mishima's Bloodline and cut the bridges with that branch of the family and everything related to it. In Tekken 3, he acted as the protagonist, became an orphan, got acquainted with his grandfather Heiachi and got trained by him, won the King of the Iron Fist Tournament, and defeated Ogre, avenging the death of his mother and ending up manifesting his hidden and dark side. Jin took on several roles throughout the series: His fighting style initially inherits the best of the Mishima style signature moves, namely the Wind God Fist and the Dragon Uppercut, and after a life-changing event occurred at the end of Tekken 3, he decided to embrace the path based on the kyokunshinkai, the martial arts that he learned from Jun Kazama, his mother. He cheated death by manifesting the power of the Devil Gene and turning into a demonic form, Devil Jin, boasting incredible powers, a pair of dark wings, two horns, and the ability to cast a deadly laser through the third eye that is on his forehead. Lured by his grandfather Heiachi Mishima into taking part in the tournament and defeating Ancient Ogre, the great evil, and True Ogre, his ultimate form as well, Jin got betrayed by Heiachi and eliminated by him and the Tekken Force right after defeating the monstrous menace. Despite Jun's efforts, Jin still inherited the Devil Gene and ultimately became a potential threat to the world at the end of the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3. Jun managed to keep Kazuya safe from the Devil's complete grasp for a while and limited the influence that the entity, which is part of the Mishima's Bloodline, could have on his son Jin.

Jin is the son of Kazuya Mishima, the main character of the first installment of the Tekken franchise, and Jun Kazama, his mother, who got pregnant during the events told in Tekken 2.
